Jason Calacanis is one of the most divisive voices in the blogging world. He is a New Yorker which colors how he interacts with the world. It’s that color which rubs some people the wrong way.

The first time I heard about Jason was when Weblogs, Inc. (Engadget among others) was sold to AOL for something like $20 million. Back when the sale went through, it sent shockwaves through the blogging universe. It was the first time that a blogging network was given a real-world dollar value, and what a value it was. Since then YouTube (not a blog) was sold to Google for $1.65 Billion dollars (in stock) which changed the landscape once again.

Jason was on TWIT nearly a year ago and became the most reviled guest in TWIT history. He is outspoken, but he is nearly always right.

I have to admit that I was one of the haters when I heard the TWIT episode, but since then he became a regular on the now defunct Gillmor Gang podcast. In those podcasts he shot to the top in respectability in my book. He might have been abrasive, but the things he said simply made sense. He is smart and worth listening to. He understands the blogosphere and has a keen insight as to where this whole mess is going.

For all those who are Calacanis haters out there, I challenge you to take another listen. You may be surprised that you start to like him. I do. Weird.

Well as you can see, I have completely redone my site. If you are subscribed to my blog via RSS, the old address no longer works. You will need to update your aggregator to point to the new address.

Transferring Blogger blogs to WordPress used to be a trivial thing until a few week ago when Blogger switched to a new system. It made a lot of new things available but it broke the old transfer tool. That was a bad thing if you had switched to the new engine which I had.

It was still possible to make the switch, but the steps were absolutely ridiculous. But, a WordPress plug-in writer has come to my rescue. Just yesterday, a Blogger transfer tool was made available.

There is a problem however, the transfer tool assumes that you are a blogspot user. I’m not. I have had my own url for nearly 10 years. But is that going to stop me? No Way!

Here is how I am getting around it. I am publishing my site to a blogspot account. Once that is done, I am going to transfer my blog to this one. That is a good thing since I have been blogging since 2002. That is a ton of posts and snapshots of my life that I don’t want to lose. And, I’m not.

By the time you read this, the posts may already be here. If they are, then I was successful. Cross your fingers!

UPDATE:
Well, I have made the transfer. The unfortunate thing is most of the images didn’t come along for the ride. Oh well, at least we have the majority of the content. Goodbye Blogger!!

Ok, so changing the look and feel of your blog is crazy easy in a WordPress blog. I just spent the past 3 hours downloading new themes and seeing what it did to this blog. It is fun. But, I think I have found one that I like.

There are a ton of themes that look cool until you see what they do to your content, and the ones that catch your eye are the ones that are not exactly subtle. It was fun seeing the crazy themes, but in the end, I chose this one. I had to find a theme that was striking but still subtle enough to keep out of the way of the content.

The funny thing is I am talking about a theme that may or may not be the one you are seeing so I am not going to talk about any of the specifics. That way, you will never know.

I still need to do some customization, but all in all, I think I like this one!
