So, Matt you find yourself out of a job, what are you going to do now?  Apparently, carry illegal drugs and get busted.

This makes Matt another in a growing line of present and past Razorbacks that seem to keep getting into trouble with the law.  Go Hogs!

I chose blue because firstly, it is my favorite color and secondly, it is the color of this here blog.  It would seem a little hinky to be in the redteam or yellowteam or verygreenteam and have a blue site.  It would be unseemly…and embarrassing, and I wouldn’t have it.

Is it me or does this sound like the rantings of a man driven to the edge?

On coaching at the University of Arkansas and in the Southeastern Conference

“All you want to do is coach football. One of my dreams has been to coach at the University of Arkansas and I’ve had the privilege to do it for ten years. I’m very thankful for that. All I want to do is concentrate on LSU. That’s all I want to do. I just don’t see any need to try to get into the conversation about ‘why this’ or ‘why would you do that.’ To me, it’s just wasted oxygen at this point, it really is, and it just takes away from our team and players and that’s what is upsetting.

“When you win a (Western division) championship last year and win ten (games)—and I don’t think our people sometimes realize how hard it is to get to Atlanta. LSU didn’t get to Atlanta last year. Auburn didn’t get to (Atlanta). LSU is playing with about the same people. Arkansas got to Atlanta last year. To win a championship and win ten (games) in this league is hard. How many teams in the SEC go back-to-back? Florida is not going back to Atlanta. It’s hard. You want to give your players credit. Your players deserve the credit of playing in the toughest league in America. They’re winning games and they’re going to a bowl game again. I just appreciate their effort. I think attention needs to be brought to those guys.”

Is it me or does Houston sound flustered and unintelligible? By the time we get to the second paragraph, I have no idea where he is or what he is talking about.

On another subject: Do we really want Butch Davis? …well, judging how the basketball coaching change went, Arkansas might need to go into this coaching change with great humility.

In my opinion, it is time for Houston Nutt to move on. The Hogs were poised to have a great season only to lose three quick games to teams they should have beat.

The saddest part of this season is Nutt’s inability to coach may have cost Darren McFadden a chance at the Heisman trophy. It is hard for a player, no matter his talent to win the Heisman when his team is a non-factor. Sorry Darren, I wish it could have gone the other way, but you have a great future in the pros.

I wish Houston Nutt only the best in the future, but maybe its time for a change. How about bringing back Gus Malzahn back to Arkansas as an offensive coordinator to prove that he does indeed belong in the college ranks. He has had a good year in Tulsa. I would be very interested to see what he could do in the SEC unfettered by a coaching staff more interested in a pissing match rather than winning.

This adds Stan to my list of nice guys who just had to go.

1. Joe Kines – Former interim head coach of the football team. Great guy, had to go.  Unfortunately we replaced him with Danny Ford.  That worked out great…
2. Stan Heath – Great guy, boring coach, nice man, no motivation. I think you are a great guy, don’t let the door hit you on your way out.

Apparently, our history, and the impressive showing we made in the SEC touney was enough to sway the voters and put us in the NCAA tournament. I’m glad, but with a 12th seed, the cards are definitely stacked against us.

Maybe that’s what we need. The Hogs have seemed to thrive on adversity and haters (I have been one of them. I have been disillusioned with the entire Razorback sporting world since the end of football season). My lack of belief may be part of the fuel in the tanks of our players who played with a lot of heart to make it this far.

Last year, a team with much more promise lost to Bucknell in the first round to embarass the whole state. The good news this year, 12th seeds are supposed to lose.

The cool side story is that the Razorbacks are playing Souther California. Can you say “We have a score to settle?” Let’s hope the ‘ballers can redeem some of the face we lost earlier this year on the gridiron.

Go Hogs, and it feels good to be posting about the Hogs. I haven’t blogged about them since Thanksgiving. Cathartic.
