Daughters of the Funky Freshness – My apologies to John Mayer…

Whew, this past month since the last time I posted has been capital ‘C’ Crazy. It is good to be busy because it keeps you out of trouble, but when it keeps you from doing any of the things that bring you joy, you are completely out of balance. Times like that are bound to happen, but it is in my best interests to ensure that they are few and far between.

I have been working on two projects that each would have demanded my full-time attention by themselves simultaneously. (Sorry about that last sentence, let me simplify…) I was working double full-time.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love what I do and I am proud of what we accomplished, but I just don’t want to live like that long term. It is nice to visit, but I am not going to build a house there.

This week, I am taking some time to catch my breath and do some projects that are just for me. I shot video of the kiddos on a climbing wall. I have recorded three ultra crappy John Mayer remakes in Garageband. You know, some really valuable stuff. But, it is these types of ‘fun’ jobs that help me to better execute in my real job.

I have had creative roles as jobs ever since I left college. It is an incredible blessing. Getting to create as a job is a dream. But, after a while what was once a labor of love and dwindle down to simply being labor. Taking a moment to remember why you love creativity and do it just for the sake of doing it is incredibly important. It refills the tanks to be creative while on the clock. Even if it is just sub-par John Mayer remakes.

PS, as for the song, love it or hate it, I only spent about an hour on it. Don’t sue me John Mayer.
