Still Here

I am still here. It is just that I have been way busy for the last two weeks. Blogging unfortunately has to take a backseat in times of extreme work. I have been busy doing something cool though. We have been working with Tyson (SVI, the company I work for) to help them equip and raise up its next generation of leaders and in the meantime we are going to feed some needy people in Mexico.

For the last two days people from Mexico and the U.S. have gotten together to do some thinking about how to make a struggling food bank in Mexico flourish. It will be an uphill battle and the problem is multi-faceted and fluid, but who said leadership was easy.

There was a lot of work needed to make sure this event went off and all in all I would have to say it was a great success.

Now on to the ongoing project that was just kicked off. Our hope is that the food bank will be stronger, growing, and more self-sufficient a year from now.

Here is a video that talks about what my new company does. SVI is an organizational development compnay. That means that we help companies develop and keep their super star employees. We help companies develop their executives and upper management.

The footage in this video is from our Radical Sabbatical experience that thrusts executives into real world experiences that are life changing.

This video talks about two locations that we go to. Torreon, Mexico is an opportunity to help out the poorest of the poor and feed the hungry. Costa Rica is a hands on experience where participants get to see sustainability and green issues up close and personal.

It’s a pretty cool job.

My Trip to Mexico

Last month, the company I work for, SVI, went to a city in central Mexico called Torreón. It is actually a collection of cities not unlike Northwest Arkansas. It is made up of the main city Torreón, Palacio Gomez, and Ciudad Lerdo. As a company, we went there to work in a food bank. The entire Torreón area has a population of just over a million of which, nearly a quarter live at or below the poverty level.

We saw things in that city that were breath-taking. There were times when it felt as though we were in a war torn country in Africa. Dust was blowing. Houses were built out of findings from a refuse heap. It would be hard to experience that and not be moved to act.
